How do I show different signs at different times?

How do I show different signs at different times?

Background

There are two kinds of scheduling available in SignStix Director.

‘Campaign scheduling’ allows you to prepare entire campaigns of content which will automatically be triggered across your estate when a certain date and time is reached.  This is convenient for managing large-scale seasonal changes in content.  See the Campaigns How-To for details.

‘Signage scheduling’ allows you to specify what signage (signs or sequences) should be played on which days of the week at which times. The rest of this article covers signage scheduling.

Creating a Signage Schedule in Director

Log into SignStix Director and have at least two signs in your account:

  1. Click ‘Signs’ in the menu at the top left.
  2. Click the ‘Schedule’ button in the main panel.
  3. Click the ‘Add’ button (which looks like a target with a green plus symbol).
  4. Enter a name for your new schedule e.g. ‘Weekly1′.
  5. You now have an empty schedule, which you can populate by clicking on the signs in the bottom-left panel.

When you add a sign to the schedule, an editing panel appears in which you need to specify:

  1. The ‘Start Date’ on which this schedule entry is considered ‘live’.  It defaults to today’s date, but can be set to a date in the future if you don’t want the signage to be displayed until that point (e.g. because it’s advertising a special offer that doesn’t start until a particular date).
  2. The ‘Cut-In Time’ of day on which to start showing this signage.
  3. The type of ‘Repeat’.  ‘Daily’ means that this entry will be active every day.  ‘One-off’ means that this entry will only be active on the date already specified.  ‘Specific Days’ means that this entry will be active on the specific days of the week that you nominate with the tick-boxes.

Click the ‘Save’ button at the right-hand end of the panel to save your schedule entry.  You can add as many schedule entries as you need.

Examples

Here are some examples of how you might set-up a schedule to meet different requirements.

Requirement #1:
Every day Sign A should play from 8 am until 1 pm, and Sign B should play at all other times.
Schedule in Director:

  • Create a schedule with two entries both marked as ‘Daily’.
  • The entry for Sign A would have a time of 08:00.
  • The entry for Sign B would have a time of 13:00.

Requirement #2:
On weekdays Sign A should play, and on weekends Sign B should play in the morning until 1pm, and Sign C thereafter.
Schedule in Director:

  • Create a schedule with three entries, all marked as ‘Specific Days’.
  • The entry for Sign A would have an early time of 06:00, say, and specific days of M, T, W, T, F.
  • The entry for Sign B would have an early time of 06:00, say, and specific days of S, S.
  • The entry for Sign C would have a time of 13:00 and specific days of S, S.
