Quick Reference

Common questions and topics about SignStix®, answered by the team that knows the platform inside and out.

You can choose between Ethernet (wired) or Wi-Fi (wireless) connection. For Ethernet, the latest signage devices come with an Ethernet port built-in. For older devices you will need a USB 2.0 adaptor connected to the signage device.
Yes – you can set different roles and permission levels so only authorised personnel can deploy a sign.
When you’re happy with a sign that has been created, you can publish it which makes it available in Director to deploy. Publishing a sign does not deploy it.
In Creator, time is handled using ‘frames’, where each frame is 40 milliseconds long. By default, a sign has 100 frames, making the sign last 4 seconds. The length of a sign can be increased by increasing the number of frames, for example increasing it to 200 frames would make it 8 seconds long.
Sites and zones are used for organising screens and assigning signage content. A site can contain multiple zones, and a zone can contain multiple devices/screens. Content is assigned to the zones using a ‘campaign’. All devices/screens in the same zone show the same content.
A campaign specifies which content to play in each zone. If required, multiple campaigns can be added to the campaign schedule so that different content starts playing at specific points in time.
Images from high-resolution digital cameras can be very large e.g. 5000 x 3500 pixels. However, the resolution of the current breed of signage devices is generally 1920 x 1080 pixels. If an oversize image is uploaded and deployed as part of a sign, it will still work but the signage device will reduce the image resolution in order to display it.
Sequences are a convenient way of assembling signs into a running order that is played in a loop.
There are two kinds of scheduling available in SignStix Director. ‘Campaign scheduling’ allows you to prepare entire campaigns of content which will automatically be triggered across your estate when a certain date and time is reached. This is convenient for managing large-scale seasonal changes in content. ‘Signage scheduling’ allows you to specify what signage (signs or sequences) should be played on which days of the week at which times. For example, this can be used to automatically play different signage at the weekends, or in the afternoons, say. It is possible to prepare a signage schedule and deploy it within a campaign schedule for complete control over content timing.
SignStix Director can handle most kinds of video format by converting files to a supported format behind the scenes. Just choose ‘Make Compatible’ when uploading your file.
This can be done using the data object tool, which allows you to define multiple ‘tiers’ of pricing (or other data) that is populated into placeholders on signage, usually driven by geographic areas.
The following web browsers are supported by SignStix: Firefox (latest) Internet Explorer 11 Chrome (latest) The following browsers are not officially supported, though we expect the majority of features to work satisfactorily: Internet Explorer 10 Safari (latest)
Creator allows you to create engaging signage that is deployed to your screens using Director
An interactive sign is a digital sign that is intended for deployment to a touchscreen. It may contain touch-events which are triggered when certain layers are touched, or timeline-events which are triggered when the animation reaches a certain frame. These events can be configured so that the signage changes in some way when they are triggered, for example: Jump to a particular frame in the sign. Pause / resume the animation timeline. Launch a full-screen video (then return to the original sign). By combining events, an interactive sign effectively becomes a mini-application that can be deployed to end-points in the same way as signage.
